Soggy SoCal bar retains the beer flowing amid high tides, flooding

Talk about a great moist bar.

A resilient watering gap in suburban Los Angeles isn’t letting El Niño-fueled high tides stop the beer from flowing.

Project Barley Taps and Grill in Redondo Beach is making waves on social media over a video that reveals the business is still very much up and operating — despite the well-liked South Bay spot being seeped in seawater.

Redondo Beach is just one of the upscale Southern California coastal communities at the moment taking further water on board, as widespread flooding sweeps the area.

A coastal flood warning from the National Weather Service is at the moment in impact for Orange and San Diego counties through 1 p.m. on Thursday.

Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties are at the moment under a coastal flood advisory, also expected to last until Thursday afternoon.

In a separate post, Project Barley revealed that flooding is a recurring drawback for the space — and claimed that native authorities hasn’t completed enough to handle the ongoing concern.

“This has been happening for years, is going to get way worse, has been brought up in city council meetings, but nothing is being done except sand bags,” the post learn.

“To make things worse we have been dropped by every insurance company even though we’ve never had a claim. We pay $20k a year in insurance and still keep getting dropped, we paid $1800k a year before all the insurance companies left California,” the business claimed.

“Please come support the businesses down in the boardwalk, be active in your city and make this a big deal. This is devastating for small businesses,” the post continued.

Project Barley proprietor Brent Reger inspired people to stop by the bar, joking that a go to comes with a free salt scrub.

The business proprietor informed KTLA that while the water had receded Tuesday morning, the flooring of the business were “ruined.”

He said he’s been making an attempt to get City Council to substitute a wooden retaining wall on the reverse aspect of the boardwalk with a concrete wall, but officers in the closely gentrified city insisted they don’t have the money.

Project Barley also operates several sister companies — including the neighboring Next Door bar on the Redondo Beach boardwalk, and Project Barley Brewery and Pizzeria in Lomita.

Officials warn that Southern California could soon get ever wetter, with “measurable” rainfall forecasted from Friday all through Halloween weekend.
