Earlier this week, we were fortunate enough to head to the Nintendo sales space at Gamescom and go hands-on with Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on Switch 2. Bandai Namco did not permit any footage to be recorded from our handheld session (and we rapidly saw why), but it seems such recording guidelines are not in place at Canada’s Fan Expo, which kicked off yesterday and was permitting over-the-shoulder recording of the docked demos.
One customer, MDee14, recorded footage of their whole play session and has rapidly shared it online, giving us our first correct look at how this factor runs when the Switch 2 is up on a massive screen. Fortunately, it seems to be higher than the handheld offering seems to be.
The video (above) reveals the attendee’s whole preview session, from the opening tutorial part to some early exploration around Limgrave. The efficiency is far from what you’d expect to see on a PS5, but it seems to maintain up fairly nicely, with the noticeable drops coming from massive sequences like the opening of the Limgrave gate. Things appear okay otherwise, but let’s bear in thoughts that this variety of over-the-shoulder footage is not always the best approach to see every little element.
Our temporary hands-on time with the recreation in handheld advised a very completely different story. It seems to be like docked mode might be the approach to go with this one (at least, in whatever construct is being proven in expos at the second), as our handheld play was plagued with hefty body drops and stutters a-plenty — though no seize was allowed for these classes, naturally.
We’re still ready on a release date for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, but let’s hope that we do not have too long to wait before we can see the launch efficiency actually put through its paces.
