Ultimate Kindle hits lowest ever price but this great deal comes with a big warning

Amazon’s Black Friday sale event has officially begun, a full week before Black Friday itself on 29 November. That’s because the offers tend to get spread out by retailers across the whole of November. On one hand this makes it harder to keep up with the best prices, but on the other it gives you an opportunity to shop around to get the best possible discounts on the things you’ve been wanting to buy.

If a Kindle is top of your shopping list then this excellent deal on the high-end Kindle Scribe is one to consider. The Black Friday sale has slashed the cost of the £329.99 Kindle Scribe right down to £214.99. That’s a huge £115 saving that, according to price tracker website Camelcamelcamel, is the lowest price the Scribe has ever been sold for on Amazon.

The Scribe is Amazon’s largest-screened, most advanced e-reader that not only lets you read books on its 10.2-inch display but also comes with a pen stylus accessory so you can write and add sticky notes to sections of books or even create entire notebooks.

This large digital slate is very appealing if you want one device on which to read the latest bestsellers but also carry around instead of a paper notebook and pen. It means you can write your thoughts about the books you’re reading by attaching scribbles to specific parts of text within any Kindle e-book, create notebooks, or use the paper-sized tablet to write, draw, sketch or mark up documents. You can even import PDFs or Microsoft Word documents to edit.

One thing to bear in mind is that though this is a great saving and makes the Scribe cheaper than the new Kindle Colorsoft, there is actually a new, second-generation Kindle Scribe just around the corner. Amazon launched four new Kindle models in October but the new Scribe is not yet on sale. If you wait until 4 December, the second-gen Scribe will be available for £379.99.

It has an updated design and new software features including the ability to write directly on the pages or in the margins of e-books, unlike the current Scribe that only has a sticky note option where you write in a little box. You may want to spend your money on the new Scribe, however Amazon has confirmed the older Scribe will get a big software “later this year” that brings some of the new features to it, including some AI smarts, so bagging the Scribe today for £214.99 could prove a canny decision. However, it is a little unclear if the old model will get every feature the new one has.

We’ve rounded up the best tech deals currently on offer for Amazon’s Black Friday sale here. We also expect more deals to crop up between now and the big day itself, so be sure to check back if want you want isn’t discounted currently. That said, do check how much of a saving you’re making – it’s only a good deal if you truly want the item in the first place.
