As you’ll seemingly be conscious, LEGO’s fancy Adult vary of units got itself a candy 1:1 reproduction of Nintendo’s iconic Game Boy yesterday (look out for a gallery of this author’s construct shortly). However, not completely happy with the beautiful consideration to element, dinky little recreation carts, and interchangeable screens that the vanilla Lego GB is rocking, one grasp builder has determined to carry hers to life.
In what’s got to be some type of report for a mod turnaround, Australian Game Boy modder and self-taught circuit-board designer Natalie the Nerd has got her Lego handheld taking part in actual GB video games via actual carts with nary a Raspberry Pi or other fashionable doodah in sight.
Indeed, this is the actual deal, with Natalie explaining to The Verge that she put collectively a bespoke Game Boy circuit board with precise chips, and all that other stuff that goes inside these issues. Magic and that.
Working with the “smallest screen kit on the market”, the predominant goal in this construct was to get a circuit board inside the set that was smaller than the dimensions of the set itself, which she has achieved, albeit by eradicating one or two bricks.
The Game Boy’s buttons, which aren’t yet completed, will be set onto a bespoke PCB and, with the entire factor already wired for USB energy, she says she’ll release the circuit-board designs once she’s finished with the construct, guaranteeing that everything can indeed be superior for us all. Hooray!
Natalie goes into much more element about the planning and construct course of on her weblog – we extremely suggest you give it a learn!
Now, you’ll have to excuse us, we’re off to construct our own set. It won’t play video games, though, so Natalie has type of ruined it now. Do any of you of us know how to construct circuit boards?
